GPs prescribing Mounjaro
At present, Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is not available to prescribe for weight loss by GPs in North Central and North London under NHS guidelines.
While Mounjaro is approved and currently prescribed for type 2 diabetes, the North Central London Integrated Care Board (ICB) is still in the process of setting up dedicated pathways and support services required to prescribe it safely and effectively for weight management—such as structured diet, exercise, and behavioural programmes.
Local GP practices currently cannot offer Mounjaro for weight loss. Its use remains reserved for diabetes treatment only. National rollout for weight management is being introduced in phases, prioritising those with the highest clinical need, and will require fully commissioned services in place before GP prescribing can begin.
